Oil-Selective Core
Absorbent inner layers are designed to capture oils, fuels and other hydrocarbon liquids while resisting clean water.
Heavy-duty multi-layer absorbent mats designed for use beneath vehicles, plant, tanks and machinery to capture oil, diesel, petrol and other hydrocarbon leaks while allowing clean rainwater to drain away.

SpillTrapper® is a specialist absorbent mat designed to sit beneath plant, machinery, vehicles, generators, tanks and other equipment that may release oil or fuel during use, storage or maintenance.
Unlike an ordinary loose absorbent pad, SpillTrapper combines an oil-selective absorbent core with a tough upper mesh, protective edging and a hard-wearing backing layer. The construction helps retain absorbed hydrocarbon liquid inside the mat while allowing clean rainwater to pass through and drain away.
This makes SpillTrapper especially useful on construction sites, transport yards, outdoor maintenance areas, rail facilities and industrial locations where conventional drip trays may be awkward to position or could fill with rainwater.
SpillTrapper.com is operated as part of the Serpro Ltd multistore network, providing straightforward access to SpillTrapper mats, pack quantities and practical product selection support.
SpillTrapper combines absorbency, weather resistance and heavy-duty construction in a reusable-position oil-control mat.
Absorbent inner layers are designed to capture oils, fuels and other hydrocarbon liquids while resisting clean water.
A robust upper mesh helps protect the absorbent layers from everyday use beneath plant, equipment and machinery.
The backing layer helps retain trapped hydrocarbon liquid and reduces contact between the contaminant and the ground.
Eyelets allow suitable mats to be pegged in position outdoors or suspended beneath equipment where appropriate.
Choose a mat according to the equipment footprint, expected leak volume, working environment and whether a standard or specialist format is required.

View specialist matsEach part of the mat performs a different role in protecting the absorbent core and retaining hydrocarbon liquid.

The upper mesh helps protect the absorbent material from direct wear while allowing leaked hydrocarbon liquid to pass into the inner layers.
Oleophilic and hydrophobic layers attract and absorb oils and fuels while resisting the uptake of clean rainwater.
The absorbent core uses recycled fibre technology to increase available oil-retention capacity within the mat.
The lower backing and reinforced edge construction help retain trapped contaminant and provide a more durable working mat.
Select according to the complete equipment footprint, leak potential, environment and required inspection frequency.
Measure the full width and length of the plant or machinery, including likely leak points and projecting components.
Choose a mat that extends beyond the expected leak area so drips do not land directly beside the absorbent surface.
Consider the amount that could escape between inspections, including persistent leakage and unattended equipment.
Establish how often the mat will be checked and replace it before saturation, damage or loss of performance occurs.
Each product format has a different role in leak prevention and spill response.
| Product type | Best suited to | Principal advantage | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| SpillTrapper mat | Ongoing oil and fuel leaks beneath plant, machinery and vehicles | Captures hydrocarbons while clean rainwater can drain away | Intended for compatible oils, fuels and hydrocarbons, not general chemical liquids |
| Rigid drip tray | Defined liquid containment beneath stationary equipment and containers | Holds free liquid for inspection, removal or reuse | Outdoor trays can fill with rainwater unless covered or regularly emptied |
| Flexible containment tray | Plant that needs to be wheeled or driven into a contained area | Raised flexible sides provide a physical containment perimeter | Requires sufficient floor space and inspection of the containment walls |
| Ordinary absorbent pad | Short-term wiping, small drips and active spill clean-up | Lightweight, portable and quick to deploy | May not provide the durability, backing or outdoor performance of a specialist mat |

SpillTrapper positioned outdoors beneath a diesel generator, capturing an oil leak in wet working conditions.
SpillTrapper provides practical hydrocarbon leak control across construction, industry, maintenance, transport and infrastructure.

SpillTrapper is intended for compatible oils, fuels and other hydrocarbon liquids. It should not be assumed to be suitable for acids, alkalis, oxidising chemicals, water-based process liquids or unidentified substances.
Absorption does not neutralise a fuel or remove its flammable, toxic or environmental hazards. A used mat may retain combustible liquid and should be handled, stored and disposed of according to the substance absorbed and the applicable site procedure.
Position the mat on a stable surface where it will collect leaks without creating a trip, slip or entanglement hazard. Do not place it where wheels, tracks, stabilisers or concentrated loads could damage the mat unless the product instructions specifically allow that use.
Inspect the mat regularly and replace it before saturation, damage, delamination or loss of oil-retention performance. Clean rainwater may drain through the mat, but contaminated water or emulsified liquid must not be allowed to escape into drains, soil or surface water.
Tell us the type and dimensions of the plant or machinery, the likely liquid, the expected leak volume and whether the mat will be used indoors or outdoors. We will help you identify suitable SpillTrapper sizes and pack options.
